With the arrival of disturbances and the first chills, this late September reminds us that autumn has officially arrived. There are plenty of activities to fully embrace the new season, without missing the swims in the Adriatic.
Starting with local festivals, such as the Festa della Zucca in Venzone, a medieval reenactment where pumpkins take center stage not only on the table but also in games and performances. The same vegetable is highlighted in S.Vito al Tagliamento, where the Sagra del Pan Zal (yellow bread) celebrates a sweet pumpkin focaccia traditionally prepared for St. Luke’s Day on October 18. In Strassoldo, from October 11 to 13, the “Magical Autumn Weavings” market exhibition will see the castles and the entire village beautifully decorated.
Autumn also offers magical landscapes: for breathtaking foliage, there’s nothing better than a walk along the Sentiero delle Vigne Alte in the Gorizia Hills or on the Trieste Karst, which turns red thanks to the numerous sumac plants, or even on Mount Matajur, a symbol of the Natisone Valleys, from whose summit one can enjoy a view stretching from the Julian Alps to the Adriatic.
And amidst villages and scenic views, on Saturday, October 12, and Sunday, October 13, the Giornate FAI d’Autunno returns, an event dedicated to revealing to citizens the wealth and variety of the region’s artistic, historical, and architectural treasures.
