In the glossary of the PCO (Professional Congress Organizer), the term “convention” refers to a type of industry gathering or meeting held to discuss topics of common interest. Outside the events sector, however, journalistic language often uses the term to refer to political party conventions, an interpretation borrowed from the United States.

A convention—an English word that is used as a feminine noun in Italian—is, for example, the event organised by Federcongressi that we hosted at the Generali Convention Center Trieste from 26 to 28 February 2026. Dedicated to training, professional development, and networking opportunities for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) professionals, the event was aptly titled “L’arte dell’incontro. Oltre ogni frontiera” (“The Art of Meeting. Beyond Every Border”).
